Dabbing 101 - How to Clean Your Electric Dab Rig (E-Rig)
The modern world of ganja is something that Bob Marley would have loved to experience. With so many ways to enjoy the benefits of cannabis, the product has evolved to serve a larger audience’s needs. If certain people dislike getting high, they can invest in the non-psychoactive effects of CBD products. Conversely, if people don’t like the feeling of the warm smoke, they can enjoy themselves through vaporized extracts by dabbing with a portable electric dab rig like the Puffco Peak, Pulsar RoK, or the KandyPens Oura

Electric dab rigs are one of the newer way to enjoy cannabis extracts on-the-go. Wax is a more concentrated form of weed, and this is typically heated and vaporized by a hot nail which produces vapor once the extract is applied to the nail. Portable electric dab rigs that are battery powered are the better option for those who want the high while out and about as opposed to the traditional dab rig which requires you to carry torch and other tools. While electric dab rigs are extremely portable and powerful, you'll still need to maintain and clean your electric dab rig to ensure an optimum experience, and here is a short guide on how to do it:

Cleaning an Electric Dab Rig

If you notice that your rig isn’t heating the concentrates as well as it used to, or if the flavors of the terpenes are not as crisp as it previously was, you’ll likely need to clean it. You will have to clean the nail of the portable dab rig, as this is where the dabs are applied to be vaporized. To successfully clean the nail and the rig, you will need the following:

  1. 95% isopropyl alcohol
  2. Salt
  3. Silicone caps
  4. Q-tips
  5. Small scraper
  6. 800-grit sandpaper
  7. Ziploc bag

Start With the E-Nail

If you have a titanium e-nail, swab the nail using a Q-tip while hot to remove the leftover concentrate. A thicker layer of residue will require you to cool the nail down to use the scraper to remove it properly. Running water will help clean it thoroughly while scraping excess residue, followed by drying and repeating the process.

Ceramic and quartz nails have the same initial step as the titanium ones. The next steps are different, as you will need to detach it from the coil and submerge it in alcohol mixed with salt inside a Ziploc bag. Next, shake it and leave it overnight, then rinse it under hot water the next day. Stubborn residue might require additional torching to loosen up the buildup, but this might make a quartz nail lose its shiny and transparent nature.

Cleaning the Body

Cooling the dab rig first is the initial step. Once cooled, drain the water out of the dab rig and then rinse it with warm water to remove the residue. Then, pour alcohol into the rig with a dash of salt, followed by plugging the stem and mouthpiece to shake it well. Pour out the solution, then start again. Like the e-nail, the Ziploc soak can help soften thick residue buildup followed by a warm water rinse to remove alcohol traces.

Conclusion

Portable dab rigs are great to have, as they offer an unparalleled experience when it comes to the high and the ganja flavor. You’ll definitely want to take care of it as best as possible, as any coatings of residue on the electric rig will affect the taste and high you get from using it. Don’t allow your unit to develop hard-to-remove layers of dabs by always going for an excellent clean whenever possible.
